In June 2010, TURN developed a program to approach our elected officials in a manner by which we could set a standard of accountability rather than complaining when they did something we do not like.
As a result TURN launched a program entitled IN OUR COUNTY . This program is not County specific, but rather is designed to be instituted on a county level.
We believe that it is at the County level that we can begin to restore our constitutional republic, one county at a time. This program is based on affirmations of our beliefs and what we expect from our elected officials.
We believe in citizens alliances and citizens working cooperatively with government. In contrast to groups that focus on the Sheriff alone, we believe that a successful program focuses on restoring the constitutional balance between elected officials who represent us and the voting public.
Post Cards
We developed a post card that lists eight positive affirmations on the front. On the back, we state that those affirmations are what we expect of our elected representative.
The cards are filled out by constituents with their name and mailing address and then are either mailed or delivered to the representative.
Those who serve us and uphold their oath of office will find this program to be a sign of support for their allegiance to the constitution and the rule of law. It is our right to expect that our elected officials honor their oath of office. They are the one who ran for office and took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.
This is a positive step forward and a positive affirmation of our beliefs as a organization. By sending the affirmation you signal to the elected officals that this is what you expect.
This is also a door to beginning to create a dialogue with more of our elected city, county and state officials.
